چکیده

Abstract Commercial bycatch species and their exploitation pattern in the Mediterranean trawl fishery are little studied. The present work examines overall size-selection pattern, both regarding sea fisher onboard vessel, for seven commercial using different codends. applied selection model predicted escape, discard, landing probability each simultaneously, a useful method providing information important fisheries management under ecosystem approach. Among studied codends, 40-mm diamond mesh codend, still use non-EU fleets, was found unsuitable stocks all cases. square codend (40S) appropriate blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou), comber (Serranus cabrilla), bogue (Boops boops) sustainability. 50-mm (50D) more suitable than only spotted flounder (Citharus linguatula). Both 40S 50D codends were picarel (Spicara smaris), whereas none ensured sustainable blackbelly rosefish (Helicolenus dactylopterus), streaked gurnard (Chelidonichthys lastoviza). results discussed relation to juvenile protection, discard mitigation, behaviour, factors sustainability of Common Fishery Policy Sea.

catch composition of the bottom trawl fishery along the coasts of karataş-adana (northeastern mediterranean sea)

the catch composition of the bottom trawl fishery along the coasts of karataş was evaluated in the 2002-2003 fishing season. a total of 110 species were registered, the fishes showed the highest diversity (90 species) followed by 15 crustaceans species and 5 species of cephalopods. the highest catch per unit effort (cpue) value (66.8 kg h -1 ) was recorded in september when the fishing season w...

A long term (1949-2010) study of catch and effort in Israeli trawl fishery, Eastern Mediterranean Sea

The trawl fishery of the Mediterranean coast of Israel was analyzed vis á vis catch and fishing effort for the years 1949-2010. The Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) was calculated using the Fox surplus-yield model and was found to be 1,413 ton per annum using 1,415 units of effort (fishing days X engine power divided by 1000). Only during nine years (1997-2005) did fishing effort exceed the valu...

Elasmobranch bycatch in the Italian Adriatic pelagic trawl fishery

Elasmobranchs are among the most threatened long-lived marine species worldwide, and incidental capture is a major source of mortality. The northern central Adriatic Sea, though one of the most overfished basins of the Mediterranean Sea, supports a very valuable marine biodiversity, including elasmobranchs. This study assesses the impact of the northern central Adriatic pelagic trawl fishery on...

Technical efficiency in the Swedish trawl fishery for Norway lobster

Reducing fleet capacity in European fisheries is an important objective of the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy. The success of such programmes depends both on the variation and the level of efficiency within the fishing fleets. If vessels with significantly lower than average efficiency levels are decommissioned, the actual reduction in fishing capacity will be less than expected. Furt...
